Three-time Dew Cup champion Ryan Sheckler won the skate park finals and vert legend Bucky Lasek won the skate vert finals on Saturday at the Dew Tour’s Skate Open.

Ryan Sheckler Wins The Dew Tour In Boston
It was just like old times in Boston as the Dew Tour held its first skateboarding event of the season — the Dew Tour’s Skate Open, which also served as the first-ever ISF (Internation Skateboarding Federation) Skateboarding World Championships. Three-time Dew Cup champ Ryan Sheckler took the Skate Park title and two-time Dew Cup winner Bucky Lasek scored first in Skate Vert.
Both were also crowned the first ever ISF Skateboarding World Champions of their respective disciplines
With a score of 91.03, Sheckler beat out an all-star list of skaters in the park finals including first-time Dew Tour competitors Ryan Decenzo (second place) and Dennis Busenitz as well as Dew Tour podium regulars Chaz Ortiz, Paul Rodriguez and Greg Lutzka. Sheckler’s first-place finish included back-to-back frontside lips, boardslides and 5-0’s.
“It’s crazy that I’m the World Champion,” said Sheckler. “These guys out here are absolutely amazing and it could have been anyone’s day. Today was my day, and I’m excited to see what happens on the rest of the Dew Tour stops.”
Decenzo went through four rounds of International Qualifiers in his professional debut and came out with a second-place finish, pulling tricks like a nollie heel to flat and a switch 180 to Smith down the rail. Chris Cole wowed the crowd with a front blunt to fakie down the rail and a 360 lip down the rail to round out the podium with a score of 87.93.
“What a great way to start the Dew Tour here in Boston,” said Cole. “Being from Philly, it’s always great to skate on the East Coast.”

Bucky Lasek Wins The Dew Tour In Boston
Lasek took home the world title at the skateboard vert finals, with a run that included a heelflip stalefish and a nollie heel stale, earning him a score of 92.50. Lasek’s last first-place podium finish on the Dew Tour was at the first stop of the 2008 season.
“The first Dew Tour stop this season kind of crept up on me but I had a lot of fun out there,” said Lasek. “I usually ride on a bowl so I wasn’t used to wall-to-wall, but it was great and feels good to be the world champion.”
Pierre-Luc Gagnon pulled out a 720 and a fakie 540 to earn his second-place finish with a score of 90.75. A hometown crowd cheered on Andy Macdonald’s runs, which included a backside 540 and a gay twist to earn him the third-place spot.

Tags: Brian Patch, bucky lasek, Grind Movie Set

It was nice and sunny today on the set of “The Grind” in Malibu, CA. The movie is set to shoot for an estimated 4 weeks with several pro-skaters set to make appearances as stunt doubles. I caught up with Brian Patch, Bucky Lasek and Neil Hendrix on the set today. I also ran into Preston Lacy from the movie Jackass.

Brian Patch arrived from Sydney, Australia at 7 in the morning to shoot his stunt. Brian and I spent the day hanging out, waiting for the directors to yell “Action!” With our own personal masseuse courtesy of the director, I’d have to say the set was pretty plush. Free food, free massage and not much work are always nice amenities.
When I arrived at 7 in the morning, four of the main actors were shooting their reactions to a stunt to be performed by Brian Patch. In the scene, Brian was going to be towed in on a quad to make a jump off of a big kicker landing into some porta-potties. About five porta-potties, which were on hydraulics, were to be knocked over, except for the last one, which was occupied by Preston Lacy, whose massive weight stops the domino effect. The scene was shot in seven different sequences. Brian didn’t make his jump until 2:30 in the afternoon. The shoot went well.
Meanwhile, Neil Hendrix got to play a Warner Bros. corporate hot shot. Wearing a suit and a gray wig, Neil would do the skating, while the cameras cut to the actor doing all the talking and getting all the girls. The actor ended up getting mobbed by 8 girls in bikinis telling him he was a cool skater. It was pretty funny, especially due to the fact that it was now five o’clock in the evening and way too cold to be dressed like that.
Bucky Lasek was also there, however I didn’t get the chance to see him skate. He must have been there for a speaking role. I did, however get to sneak into his make-up trailer and get a shot of him having his face powdered, which was pretty funny. I still don’t know when “The Grind” will be coming out to theaters, but it looks good and they have Morgan Stone working with the skaters to make it as realistic as possible.
