    • Boy Hit by Garbage Truck to Skate Again

    Luke Acuna, of San Diego, was hit by a garbage truck back in November while he was skateboarding. The accident resulted in several surgeries and, eventually, the amputation of his left leg. The family is going after the city for $10,000 in damages. Seems like a small amount of money, considering all the surgeries and therapy Luke still has to go through as it is uncertain when he will be able to return home.

    The 9 year-old had courageous words of wisdom when he spoke to the press about the hardest part of his rehabilitation, learning how to walk again.

    “It’s not fun, but it’s one of those things where you have to get through.”

    Doctors are hopeful that he will be able to skateboard again, along with other sports he plays. As well as the rehabilitation, Luke also has a mentor through the Challenged Athletes Foundation to help him achieve that goal.

    “I always liked skateboarding. So, I just, since this accident I just don’t want to quit it. I like it, so I just want to do it again.”
