As you are probably already familiar with the new SLS Campion Leticia Bufoni is killing it in the Skateboarding World. We shared some photos from ESPN’s body issue. To say the least, yeah, we’re in love and not just for one reason.
Not a lot of women skate street, it kicks your ass, and street skaters don’t wear protective padding. Naturally these variables alone would prevent a woman from Skateboarding but not Leticia Bufoni. Her love for Skateboarding far surpasses her fear for falling or getting hurt. Even her father broke her board, to attempt to prevent her from Skateboarding. Once her Dad broke her board, she swapped out the deck, salvaging the trucks and wheels. From that point on her father knew that there was nothing he could do to prevent her from doing the thing she loved, Skateboarding.
When she was just 14 years old, her Dad only let her stay in the states after doing an ollie inward heel flip in the X-Games. Once he saw that he knew that she was destined to become a professional Skateboarder.
I love skating so much, I can’t stop. Even if I’m hurt and I can’t skate, in my head I’m always like, “I need to get back on my board.” I go crazy.
Before I started skating, I was doing capoeira for a long time.It’s a Brazilian dance — like a fighting dance with kicking and backflips. In capoeira you have a lot of movement, and in skateboarding you have a lot of movement. I was really strong because of it.
I go skydiving all the time. I’ll try to go, like, once a week. I’ll do five or six jumps in one day.
I have a group of friends with Harleys, and we all ride together.But it’s really hard to do tricks on a Harley-Davidson because it’s so big, so I have a dirt bike and I do some wheelies and some jumps on that.
I’m going to skate forever. Professionally, I don’t know, maybe I’ll skate professionally until I’m 40. But I see myself really old and still skating around. Like skating bowls and mini ramps.
